According to VDE 0105 Part 1 Para. 9.6.4 the cable cutter 216416 is used for
cutting low and medium voltage cables up to 60 KV AC. If a live wire is cut by
accident, the operator is not in any danger.
The 10 m long high pressure hydraulic hose, which connects the pump
to the cutting head, guarantees the highest standard of safety due to it
special insulating features. The cutting process is controlled by watching the
manometer attached to the pump, since, in general, the cutting head con
not be seen when a cable is cut. This process has been tested repeatedly at
medium voltage, with live wires and continuing main supply.
The cutting range goes up to 85 mm. The 12 mm cutting blades are made
of high yield point steel and are polished, thus wear- and tear- resistant, A
strongly dimensioned guidance of the blades guarantees a high degree of
mechanical stability. Even in the event of a short circuit, a safe cutting of the
wires is guaranteed, since the individual blades overlap by approx. 20 mm. The
blades open themselves when pressure is reduced. The high pressure hose
bursts at 2700 bar. The pressure relief safety system of the pump has been
adjusted at a 625 bar level.
